Early in the year, in March, preparations begin for the Palio, which has its origins in the early Middle Ages and always takes place on the 1st. Sunday in September in Asti, Piedmont.

Then in the evening hours, the drums of the participating groups can be heard on the hills near Asti, rehearsing for this medieval spectacle below in the valley.

"Asti lives its history," it says, because this Palio horse race has been taking place in Asti, Piedmont, since 1275, that is, for already 750 years.
